Village Hike 7/2/2015

This morning the Cayos Cochinos resort chef, Dante, took our class on a hike through the mountain to pay a visit to a local village. It was a fairly difficult trek with very steep inclines and even steeper declines. I had trouble staying on my feet on the way down! The population was estimated to be about 40 or 50 persons. We walked through the entire village and saw the dock where the fishermen hang out, the few lobster traps that have yet to be put out to sea, the local store, soccer field, and naval base. We also visited the children at school and distributed candy to each of them. Soon after receiving it I noticed them trading the different types. Some brands were clearly more popular than others! We were introduced to a few of the natives and saw very quickly that they were all extremely welcoming of us.
